Aviary owner Jesse started breeding birds with his dad when he was 12 years old. At that time they had cockatiels, parakeets, red rumps and button quail. He enjoyed the time spent together with his dad building aviaries, learning about birds and raising them, going to aviaries of other breeders to learn more and often to help do repairs or clean up after storms. Later in life when Jesse had kids of his own he started JED's Feathered friends in the hope of spending time with his kids learning about birds and building aviaries. Even with over 30 years experience with birds we don't think we know everything. We have several other friendly breeders across the country along with pet store owners and product manufacturers that we discuss ideas with, and ask questions of, leaning on their experience as well as our own.

A lot of time and energy go into planning and building aviaries as well as picking the right breeding stock. We have bred birds in Arizona and in Utah. The totally diverse environments and requirements of these two areas have taught us a lot about innovative ways to house, feed and care for our birds. In cooperation with the guys at www.mraviary.com we have helped develop modular aviary walls and cage pieces, doors and several feeding trays with lock out doors which we use to keep our birds and human helpers safe. At our aviary in Utah we spend a lot of time contouring the land for our aviaries and then building them so that the birds can enjoy the sunlight and outside air while keeping them safe from predators both on the ground and in the air as well as allowing them to also have access to a warm secure area away from harsh weather.
